FEFCO Box Design Guide

FEFCO is regarded as the standard international guide to box design.

Please see our quick guide to common FEFCO box designs.

FEFCO code: 0200

An open top box with flaps meeting at the base, which need to be sealed. Often linked with the 0422 lid and used for storage.

FEFCO code: 0422

Lid for the 0200 above, or used as a tray. This will require a tool to make but is then easily erected without sealing

FEFCO code: 0201

The most common corrugated case. Flaps meet at the top and bottom and require sealing. This is the most economical way to pack most products. The cartons stack well minimise storage space required.

FEFCO code: 0203

Similiar to 0201 above, but the flaps completely cover the base and the top. This gives added strength to the case, especially if taped in certain ways.

FEFCO code: 0301

Tray and lid. A cost effective solution typically used for shallow products. As the side are glued, the 0422 option above is often adopted if presentation is important.

FEFCO code: 0411

Provides an economical solution to wrapping flat products. 0411 is popuar in the flat pack furniture market sector.

FEFCO code: 0427

Commonly used to give downward strength, as the walls are made up using three pieces of cardboard. It comes in flat pack form and makes an excellent product presentation packaging solution.

FEFCO code: 0471

Similar to 0427 above. However, over larger volumes, this makes a cost effective alternative due to better board utilisation.

FEFCO code: 0759

Similar to 0427 and 0471, but is not as strong on the downward strength. Typically used in high volume manual packing environments where speedy erection is needed. It is a health and satefy conscious design and has minimal repetitive strain injury potential. Although slightly more expensive, users will benefit from potential labour savings.

FEFCO code: 0509

Postal packs typically used for books or large catalogues.

FEFCO code: RTF

Postal pack based design typically used for books or large catalogues. A more presentation orientated solution than 0509.
